How to adjust Rockwell hardness tester parameters?

Post-Sales Handling for Abnormal Double Rockwell Hardness Measurement Values: A Case Study by Mikrosize

The precise operation of measuring equipment is the core guarantee for production and testing. Recently, we received feedback from a customer reporting that their Double Rockwell hardness tester was providing inaccurate values. Despite attempting to adjust some parameters themselves, the fault remained unresolved. The customer suspected an abnormality in the equipment's experimental force.

Upon receiving the feedback, Mikrosize immediately initiated a remote video post-sales service session. Leveraging our professional technical expertise, we quickly identified and resolved the issue, earning the customer's recognition through technical strength and efficient service.

Detailed Problem Description

The customer not only described the issue of inaccurate hardness measurement values in detail but also provided the parameter setting interface, test data, and a video demonstrating the hardness tester's experimental force tested with a force gauge. They explicitly pointed out a possible deviation in the experimental force. By carefully reviewing all materials provided, we confirmed that the experimental force data in the video showed clear abnormalities. Our preliminary judgment indicated potential issues with the equipment's parameter settings or hardware contact.

Remote Troubleshooting and Fault Localization

To accurately pinpoint the fault, we initiated a step-by-step remote guidance process:

  1. Step 1: HRA Scale Testing We guided the customer to switch to the HRA scale and test the experimental force again using a force gauge. The result showed a value far exceeding the standard 60 kgf, reaching over 200 kgf. This confirmed a significant abnormality in the experimental force.

  2. Step 2: Parameter Interface Inspection We then guided the customer to enter the equipment settings interface. Here, we observed that the force value data parameters were jumping abnormally with excessive amplitude. This erratic behavior led us to diagnose the root cause: a loose hardware sensor interface resulting in poor contact and numerical disorder.

Solution and Parameter Optimization

In response to the identified hardware issue, we remotely guided the customer to check and reconnect the sensor-related interfaces. After this operation, we rechecked the parameter interface and confirmed that the force value amplitude had returned to normal. The hardware contact problem was successfully resolved.

However, during subsequent testing of the HRC scale, the experimental force measured 141 kgf, still showing a slight deviation from the standard value of 150 kgf. This discrepancy arose because the customer had mistakenly adjusted the equipment's deceleration force and reaching force parameters during their own troubleshooting, preventing the experimental force from reaching the standard value.

To address this, Mikrosize performed precise calculations and provided the customer with the correct parameter setting scheme. We remotely guided them through the parameter adjustments to align with standard requirements.

Final Verification and Calibration

Following the parameter adjustments, we guided the customer to perform tests using standard hardness blocks. After three repeated tests, the results were stable at approximately 60.1 HRC. Compared to the standard hardness block value of 61.1 HRC, this deviation was within the industry's allowable range. To ensure optimal accuracy and stability, we performed remote fine-tuning of the equipment settings, thereby guaranteeing the hardness tester's measurement precision.

This post-sales issue was successfully resolved without any need for on-site visits.
