Automatic Metallographic Abrasive Cutting Machine
Sample integrity begins with high-quality cutting. A perfect cutting surface reduces the number of subsequent preparation stages and minimizes total preparation time. The advantage of this machine lies in its ability to integrate various cutting techniques, achieving excellent results in diverse heavy-duty applications. It is supplied by Mikrosize and falls under the category of Measuring and Testing Instruments.
Featuring X-Y-Z three-axis capability, the machine offers versatile cutting modes. Z-axis cutting involves clamping the sample and bringing the cutting wheel close to it. Y-axis cutting uses a T-slot feed table to move the clamped sample into the rotating wheel. An optional X-axis module enables programmable parallel slicing, allowing multiple slices of identical or varying thicknesses to be produced efficiently.
Operation is fully automated via a user-friendly touchscreen control with a programmable human-machine interface. This enhances productivity, ensures sample consistency, and improves operator comfort. The standard cutting method combines Z-axis and Y-axis feed cutting with a pulse mode. Optional techniques include diagonal cutting (improves cutting ability), step cutting (for superhard materials), and segmented cutting (for difficult-to-cut workpieces).
Cutting parameters are easily set on the LCD display. Operators can pre-select cutting force and set the feed rate (0.2-5 mm/sec). The system can automatically adjust the feed rate if needed to protect both the sample and the machine. An optional speed adjustment device allows the cutting wheel speed to be varied between 600-2400 RPM.
The machine includes a database that stores 99 different cutting programs with corresponding sample names or quantities. All parameters can be recalled at any time, and data on cutting consumables is also listed for easy selection.
A versatile clamping system addresses challenges with small or irregularly shaped samples. The machine is equipped with a stainless-steel T-slotted worktable, and Kemet provides various special fixtures that can be quickly mounted to securely hold almost any component shape from the front.
A standard closed-loop cooling system sprays coolant onto the cutting wheel and sample, effectively preventing overheating and preserving the sample's microstructure. For materials that generate significant chips, an optional filtration unit is recommended. It filters coolant in an environmentally friendly manner and deposits chips into a separate container for disposal.
To simplify maintenance, an automatic cleaning function thoroughly cleans the entire cutting chamber. This not only enhances instrument accuracy and operation but also reduces the operator's workload and saves time. An externally installed cleaning gun is also provided for easily removing residue from horizontal surfaces.
Programmable return positions offer three shutdown modes: stop at the cutting end position, return to the starting point, or return to the reference (full reset) point, providing flexibility at the end of each cycle.
