The probe of Mikrosize’s ultrasonic thickness gauge emits high-frequency ultrasonic pulses, which penetrate the coating via a couplant. When meeting coating interfaces with different densities, part of the ultrasonic waves reflect as new pulses, while the rest pass through. These reflected pulses return to the probe and are received by the sensor. After processing by the instrument, the ultrasonic propagation time in the coating is calculated. Using the formula thickness H = V × T/2 (with known coating sound velocity V and instrument-measured propagation time T), the coating thickness is accurately obtained—core technology that defines Mikrosize’s measurement reliability.
