Hello, everyone. Today, I'm going to introduce a very practical measuring instrument to you —— the iThick-4000 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge from Mikrosize Company. In fields such as industrial production and material inspection, accurately measuring the thickness of materials is of vital importance. And the ultrasonic thickness gauge can provide us with precise measurement data thanks to its excellent performance.
Before using it, first check whether there is any damage to the appearance of the instrument and whether the battery power is sufficient. If the screen flickers or doesn't display anything, it is very likely that the battery is running low and needs to be replaced.
After turning on the power, the instrument will first conduct a self-check display. Just 1 second later, it will show the software version number, and then display "0.000", which indicates that the instrument is ready and can be used normally.
Next, select the appropriate measurement mode according to the material and thickness of the material to be measured. If you are measuring thin materials, even if they have a coating, choose the E-E mode; for measuring thicker materials, use the 1-E mode; if you are measuring plastics, the PLAS mode is the best choice; of course, you can also select the AUTO automatic mode and let the instrument make its own judgment.
After that, press the CAL key to enter the calibration mode. If it shows IN (MM), then press the CAL key again to make IN/µs (M/s) flash. Then use the up and down arrow keys to adjust the sound velocity until the value becomes the sound velocity of the material to be measured. After that, press the CAL key again to exit the calibration mode, and at this time, the instrument can start measuring.
When measuring, drop a drop of couplant on the material to be tested. This can help the ultrasonic waves transmit better, and then press the probe tightly against the surface of the tested material. At this time, the instrument should display 6 to 7 vertical bars and a numerical value, and this numerical value is the thickness value of the material. If there are fewer than 5 vertical bars or the reading is unstable, the measured value is likely to be incorrect and needs to be measured again.
In quality control, sometimes it is necessary to know the difference between the target value and the actual thickness, and then you can use the difference mode for measurement. First, turn on the power and let the instrument conduct a self-check. Then press the DIFF key, and the screen will display DIFF OFF or DIFF, followed by the thickness value and unit. Repeating the operation can turn the difference mode on or off. Suppose it shows DIFF on and MM is flashing. Use the up and down arrow keys to input the target thickness. After pressing the SEND key to confirm, you can use the difference function for measurement, and the specific operation is the same as the normal measurement. To cancel the difference mode, just press the SEND key again. After each measurement is completed, remember to turn off the power and wipe off the couplant adhered to the probe with a clean fine cloth. This can extend the service life of the instrument.
The iThick-4000 Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge is simple to operate and accurate in measurement, making it a reliable assistant for material thickness detection. Whether it is for quality control in industrial production or data measurement in scientific research experiments, it can perform tasks excellently. I believe that once you are familiar with its operation, you will definitely be able to fully utilize its advantages.
